In Bocas Del Toro, Panama there is a bat cave called La Gruta. According to Lonely Planet it was about a 6km walk and you paid a dollar to get in and got a water proof flashlight. Now I know why Jen always refers to it as the Lonely Liar. After walking about 3km to save .50 cents on a taxi (other backpackers are so cheap!) we hop in a collective taxi and pay a dollar to be taken to La Gruta. Only for the brave and those with excellent directional skills… That was the first line in the description of the Mimbi Timbi Trail in the guidebook at the hostel and it should have been our first warning not to go. Unfortunately we didn’t listen. Melissa and I set off around 11am on a hike to and through the Mimbi Timbi trail in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. The trail is filled with waterfalls, caves to explore and great views of the ocean, despite the warning that it was intense we couldn’t be swayed not to go.
